Mogadishu, 22 July 2026 – The Minister of Internal Security of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Gen. Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartaag), today met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Somalia, H.E. Kang Hyung-shik, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Mogadishu. The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Internal Security, H.E. Gen. Sulub Ahmed Firin, and the Director General of the Ministry, Mr. Mohamed Shire.
The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in maritime security, enhancing the capacity of Somalia’s security institutions, and supporting ongoing efforts to safeguard the country’s maritime domain.
The two sides exchanged views on strengthening the Somali Police Force, advancing counter-piracy efforts, and enhancing the operational capabilities of the Somali Coast Guard and Somali Navy to protect Somalia’s coastline and strategic sea lanes.
They also explored opportunities for expanding cooperation in training, capacity building, technical assistance, and the exchange of expertise to further strengthen Somalia’s security institutions.
The Minister expressed appreciation for the Republic of Korea’s continued support to Somalia and reaffirmed the importance of deepening bilateral cooperation in support of security, peace, and sustainable development.
