Biography

Major General Sulub Ahmed Firin is the Deputy Minister of Internal Security of the Federal Government of Somalia, a position he has held since 2025. He is a senior Somali security official with more than two decades of experience in national security, policing, and public administration.

Prior to his current appointment, he served as Deputy Minister of Transportation in 2024, following his tenure as 

Commissioner of the Somali Police Force from 2023 to 2024, where he played a key role in strengthening national policing, institutional reform, and public security operations.

Between 2022 and 2023, Major General Sulub served as Deputy Minister of Transport and Aviation. Earlier, from 2018 to 2019, he was Commander of the Somali Police Dervish Force, and from 2017 to 2018, he served as Deputy Commander of the General Division of the Banadir Regional Police.

He also held several other senior security positions, including Assistant Commander of the Somali Custodial Corps (2016–2017), Assistant Commander of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) from 2013 to 2015, and Security Commander at the Ministry of Internal Security from 2010 to 2012. Earlier in his career, he served as Somali Police Emergency Commander (2009–2010) and Assistant Duty Commander-in-Chief of the Somali Police Force from 2007 to 2009.

Major General Sulub began his military career in 2004 after joining the Somali National Army (SNA). In 2005, he joined the Jowhar Presidential Guard, and in 2006, he was among the first 210 soldiers involved in the re-establishment of the Somali Police Force.

Academically, he holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Peace & Security Management and a Postgraduate Diploma in Peace & Conflict Resolution from Makerere University in Uganda. He also earned undergraduate degrees in Security Studies and Public Administration.

In addition, he has undertaken specialized international training in counterterrorism, police leadership, VIP protection, migration security, and anti-human trafficking in Kenya, Ethiopia, Egypt, Nigeria, and Uganda.
